Living With Our Dying
In this introductory workshop, participants will be led on a journey of discovery, envisioning, and becoming more aware of how to engage with their mortality. Rather than simply choosing end-of-life options based on what is known, participants will be invited to imagine and explore what could be possible. Through this process, participants will identify what matters most—individually and collectively.
INELDA teaches hundreds of people a month how to support folks facing death. We know that talking about death will not kill us. In fact, we have heard many times that when we consider our mortality, it reflexively reminds us that we are alive now. This workshop allows for the time to explore and discuss what is important to us. Often, death is considered a taboo subject and yet, the avoidance of its contemplation and further exploration, leaves many people facing end-of-life feeling unprepared and poorly informed.
By discussing our own mortality in a small group environment we can explore together how ‘living with’ rather than avoiding the topic can lead to a deeper understanding of how we live. Considering our mortality is a natural human impulse, and, this workshop is a space to, as Stephen Jenkinson invites, “let the news of your death transform you,” and reveal the deeper truths that our mortality holds.
