Book-of-the-Month Discussion - November

Presented by Susan Farrell

Join us each month as we explore a thoughtfully selected book related to death, dying, grief, or the human experience. This welcoming discussion group offers a supportive space to share insights, ask questions, and connect with others who are curious about the many ways literature helps us understand life’s most meaningful transitions.

November's Book: From Here to Eternity: Traveling the World to Find the Good Death by Caitlin Doughty

In From Here to Eternity, mortician and author Caitlin Doughty travels across cultures to explore how communities care for their dead, mourn their losses, and maintain relationships with those who have died. Through vivid accounts of funeral customs and death rituals, the book invites readers to reconsider familiar assumptions about dignity, tradition, and what constitutes a “good death.”

During the discussion, we will reflect on the practices and perspectives presented in the book, the influence of culture on death and mourning, and what other traditions might teach us about our own relationships with mortality and the dead.

Readers are invited to share their responses, questions, and insights in an open and respectful conversation. This event is free and open to everyone, but advance registration is required. Participants are encouraged to read the book before attending.
