Book-of-the-Month Discussion - December
Join us each month as we explore a thoughtfully selected book related to death, dying, grief, or the human experience. This welcoming discussion group offers a supportive space to share insights, ask questions, and connect with others who are curious about the many ways literature helps us understand life’s most meaningful transitions.
December's Book: It’s OK That You’re Not OK: Meeting Grief and Loss in a Culture That Doesn’t Understand by Megan Devine.
Grief is often treated as a problem to solve or a temporary experience that should follow a predictable path. In It’s OK That You’re Not OK, therapist and grief advocate Megan Devine challenges those expectations and offers a more compassionate understanding of loss—one that recognizes grief as a natural response rather than something that needs to be fixed.
During the discussion, we will consider the book’s perspectives on cultural expectations, grief myths, stages and timelines, well-intended advice, and the difference between supporting pain and trying to remove it. We will also reflect on what it means to build a life alongside grief rather than attempting to overcome or leave it behind.
Whether you are grieving, supporting someone who is, or simply interested in understanding loss more fully, you are invited to share your responses, questions, and insights in an open and respectful conversation.
This event is free and open to everyone, but advance registration is required. You are encouraged to read the book before attending.
