1 Part Class

The Changing Deathscape: Death and Grief in the Digital Age

As technology reshapes how we live, it also transforms how we grieve, remember, and honor those we have lost. This class explores the evolving landscape of death and grief in the digital age, examining how online memorials, virtual support groups, and emerging technologies are redefining mourning practices across cultures.

In this class, we will:

  • Explore how people today use things like online support groups, digital memorials, and virtual rituals to grieve and remember loved ones.
  • Talk through real‑world questions about privacy, misinformation, inclusivity, and emotional safety in digital spaces.
  • Look at how different communities are reshaping old traditions and creating new ones as mourning moves online.
  • Think about how these changes matter for caregivers, educators, and anyone who supports people through grief.

By the end of the session, participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how technology is changing the ways we mourn—and some practical ideas for approaching these spaces with empathy, fairness, and awareness.

The class session is 1.5 hours, with time allotted for open discussion.

All class proceeds directly support the Center for Death Education’s mission.
