Religious Views About Death

This course offers a compelling exploration of beliefs and practices surrounding dying, death, the afterlife, and grieving across five major world religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. Participants will engage with Eastern and Western religious traditions to understand how different faiths interpret mortality, ritual, and remembrance.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the cultural and individual variations within religious traditions, encouraging participants to consider how faith and culture intersect to shape personal beliefs about death and mourning. By cultivating awareness and sensitivity to religious and cultural diversity, participants will develop the knowledge and empathy necessary for respectful engagement in both personal and professional contexts where issues of death and grief arise. The class session is 1.5 hours, with time allotted for open discussion.

All class proceeds directly support the Center for Death Education’s mission.
